Passed one part of the Pennsylvania real estate exam but missed the other? Start with your official results and the deadline attached to your record. You can make a more useful plan when you separate the next exam appointment from the later license application.
This guide is for Pennsylvania salesperson candidates. Broker examinations, license reactivation and applicants already licensed elsewhere can involve different requirements.
Do you have to retake both portions?
No. Pearson VUE’s Pennsylvania Candidate Handbook says candidates who pass one portion retake only the failed portion within their authorization period. It describes unlimited attempts during a salesperson’s five-year authorization, measured from completion of the earliest required course. OnVUE candidates must wait seven days between online attempts. The handbook’s retake section does not give a universal waiting period for test-center appointments; confirm your eligibility and available dates before booking.
Save the reports for both portions, even when you are disappointed with one result. Create a folder containing your course records, authorization email and examination results. Use clear filenames so you can find the relevant record without searching through old messages.
Keep the exam and application deadlines separate
Pennsylvania’s salesperson licensure requirements say each required passing score must be within three years before submission of a properly completed license application. Passing the second portion does not restart the date of the first passing score.
For your own planning, write down:
- The completion date of your earliest required course.
- The passing date for each exam portion already completed.
- The authorization information shown in your exam account or approval email.
- Your intended retake date and intended application date.
If a deadline is close, resolve it before spending money on another appointment. Ask the testing provider about your exam authorization and the Commission about licensing requirements. A general article cannot determine how an expired authorization or older score will be handled in your individual record.
Use the result to choose what to work on next
The candidate handbook says a failing score report includes diagnostic information and reexamination instructions. Read that information before selecting more study materials.
Make a short retake note with three columns: topic, what confused me and how I will check my understanding. For example, “agency” is too broad to guide a study session. “I confused the role of a transaction licensee with an agent’s representation duties” gives you a specific concept to revisit.
Use the appropriate section of the official exam content outlines to keep the review relevant. The national outline and Pennsylvania outline cover different material. The national outline also describes questions that test recall, application and analysis. Include practice explaining why an answer fits the facts, rather than relying only on remembered definitions.
For a broader weekly routine, use our Pennsylvania exam study plan. Keep your retake note focused on what the result showed you still need to understand.
Check the reservation before you pay
When you are ready to rebook, compare the reservation with your result:
- Does the exam name match the portion you need?
- Is it a salesperson examination?
- Did you select the intended test center or online delivery option?
- Have you reviewed the current fee, cancellation terms and appointment requirements?
- Does the appointment leave enough time to address your weakest topics?
If the account offers an option you do not understand, ask before completing the reservation. Do not create another account simply to make an unexpected message disappear. Keep a copy of the confirmation and use our exam-day checklist when preparing for the appointment.
Frequently asked questions
Should I book the earliest available retake?
Choose a date after reviewing both your eligibility and your preparation needs. A useful target gives you time to work on identified gaps. Repeating the same practice set until it feels familiar is a weak basis for deciding that you are ready.
Who can help if my result or booking option looks wrong?
Pearson VUE’s Pennsylvania contact page directs score-report and scheduling questions to Pearson at 833-551-0235. Have the exam name, date and relevant confirmation ready. Avoid sharing passwords or full identity documents in an ordinary support message.
Can I apply after passing only one portion?
A first-time standard salesperson applicant normally needs both required passing results before applying. Different rules can apply to applicants previously licensed elsewhere; check the Commission’s licensure guide for the applicable route.
